However, we are talking about .005-.015" in depth, so only those very thin old barrels are likely to be rejected for such a procedure. DB guns can be jug choke, if the barrels are thick enough.I like the fact that they have a hole cross drilled horizontally in the area where the cap sits. These hole direct the blow back gases outward and help split the cap for easy removal. My other choice of nipples would be the Knight "Red Hot". Both nipples come in sizes to fit your rifles. The bit that gave me nightmares was brazing on the bayonet bar and sling lug.. i used the last of my "old" silver solder on the bar, but had to use new stuff on the sling lug.Anyway, the common ramrods of the 18th c. civilian guns would be a tapered wood rod with or without a sheet iron tip on the entry end and a wide front end of bare wood to seat the load. I had not been able to find someone (in Oz) who could/would machine the dovetails for the underlugs and sights on my Baker Rifle build and I couldn't find much on-line covering the process so I ended up having a crck at it myself with some pretty basic tools. This is my first ever build so I am very new to this and so I can ...I am in the process of making my own stain for curly maple using nitric acid and distilled water in a 5/1 solution. Going to split it up and try adding iron from different sources and see how it work out. My intention is to have one batch with wrought Iron added, another with some 1095 steel I have, and the last batch be a basic acid/water mix.Apr 20, 2020. #9. Got this result with a slight variation of the Skychief load today. I used 4 overshot cards in place of the nitro card. I found that when shooting with a nitro card I was getting a donut pattern, though the standard Skychief load still significantly reduced pattern size. Also, dont mind the artwork!Both rifles are Investarm rifles, the flintlock is a Lyman Great Plains Rifle and the percussion is a Cabela's .58 caliber Hawken. I'm thinking about swapping out the percussion breech plug on one rifle for the flintlock breech plug on another. The flintlock is .50 caliber and the percussion is .58 caliber. I wash and dry it first then fold several layers (5-6) of fabric slightly wider than the patch I want and use a sharpened hole saw in my drill press to cut the patches. While Uberti was making the upgrades, Pietta watched as they were considering similar factory upgrades.The Hawken and Renegade are advertised as being .500 bore with .006” grooves. This gives you a total space of .512” that you need to work off of. Subtract the .490 ball and this means you need to make up .022” of space.
